TOURISM FACTS OF INTEREST

  • 30 Years ago, Port Stephens was the largest oyster-producing estuary in the Southern Hemispere ( Source: Farmers Association of N.S.W.)
  • Moffat's Oyster barn has developed as a regionally famous destination in the Hunter; others such as Tailor Made fish farm at Bobs Farm are developing tourist opportunities. (Source: Port Stephens Examier)

  • Broomes 10 day Shinju Matsuri (The Festival of the Pearl) is one of Australias longest running annual festivals and the biggest event in the Kimberleys, attracting tens of thousands of visitors every year.( Source: W.A. Tourism)
  • S.A. Tourism Minister recently launched the Eyre Peninsula Seafoodand Aquaculture Trail that will build on the Eyre Peninsulas growing reputation as a nature tourism destination.( Source S.A. Tourism)
  • Some attractions have seen a gradual decline in total visitors.Some feel this is because of the many new attractions, festivals, and events that compete for visitors time elsewhere along the coast (Source:N.S.W. Tourism).

  • Pearl Tours to Port Stephens will give the area a new image. Nature at its Best. This will become a new icon for New South Wales labelling Port Stephens as the focal point in Pearl Tourism.
  • Education and Tourism are two of Australia's major income earners.   People visit Australia from all over the world as tourists and many on study visas. Apart from english education, Aquaculture studies are now playing a major role. Many schools are considering the introduction of Aquaculture as a subject. TAFE and various schools now form a focal point and the introduction of Aquaculture Tours.These tours would allow students to visit various facilities such as fish farms, abalone farms, fishery establishments and pearl farms such as ours here in Port Stephens.
